She began her acting career at age thirteen and directed the Rye High School Musical Revue in 1989. She left Northwestern University to appear in the film Father of the Bride, but returned shortly afterwards to complete her degree. Her sister is actress Ashley Williams, who became known for her role as Victoria in How I Met Your Mother. She married country singer Brad Paisley in March 2003; they had two children together.
